Signal-Free Gurugram: The ₹386 Crore Mega Transit Makeover

Gurugram is poised for a significant transportation upgrade as the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has proposed the development of five elevated road corridors along with seven flyovers and underpasses to create signal-free travel routes and alleviate persistent traffic congestion across the city.

The proposed infrastructure plan targets some of Gurugram’s busiest traffic corridors, which regularly experience high vehicular volumes and bottlenecks. Key elevated road projects include stretches from NH-8 to Vatika Chowk and Vatika Chowk to Ghata Chowk along the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR), Rajiv Chowk to Atul Kataria Chowk, Mahavir Chowk to IFFCO Chowk, and Atul Kataria Chowk to the Dwarka Expressway via Old Delhi–Gurgaon Road. These corridors are expected to enhance connectivity and streamline traffic movement on critical urban routes.

To further improve road efficiency, GMDA has also proposed seven flyovers and underpasses at major intersections, including Dadi Sati Chowk, Ambedkar Chowk, and Millennium City Centre. Additionally, the authority has approved 51 road infrastructure projects valued at approximately Rs 386 crore, with several already awarded for implementation.

The proposed developments form part of GMDA’s broader urban infrastructure strategy focused on enhancing mobility, strengthening civic amenities, improving drainage systems, and expanding green infrastructure through integrated planning and accelerated project execution.
